This is one of the more sought after questions in the poker industry and one that tends to be avoided by people. People cannot really answer this question because there is real answer, it's a bit like asking how was the universe created and what came first the chicken or the egg. But lets have a quick peak and try to see what the game is actually all about, is it mainly skill or luck?
Lets first have a look at why you have to be lucky to play poker, because you do not have judgement over how the cards are in fact dealt, you have to be lucky to be dealt the best possible hand, by getting a bad hand time after time you will never get any where in a game, unless of course you have the nerve and skill.
Skill also plays a big part in the match of poker, as we mentioned above you have to know when you have been given a bad hand and know when to give up, if you constantly play with band hands then you are likely to lose a lot of cash, you have to judge the players around you and a good poker play will be able to tell whether or not they can continue with the game. You also need to know know the exact time to call a bluff.
In my honest opinion, i actually feel that the game is about both attributes. But over the space of time I believe that the skill aspect becomes a lot stronger. As an example if you was a beginner and you played against someone of professional status then I can confidently say that by chance you may win one or two games at most.
