Understanding Roulette and How it Works

Ever wondered what the term roulette means or how the game is played? If your answer is yes then you have fond the right article to read.

Roulette, whether paid or free roulette, is a game of chance played in casinos. It’s a borrowed word from the French language and when translated in English means “little wheel”.The game requires players to place bets on either: a number; a range of numbers; whether the number is even or odd; or between the colours red or black. The game starts when a dealer spins the wheel and then spins a ball in an opposing direction in a titled track that goes around the wheel. It would not take a rocket scientist to figure out that the ball would eventually stop and fall in any of the 37 (European roulettes) or 38 (American roulettes) pockets that are numbered and colored. This is how the winning number or colour is determined on each play and, obviously, whoever guesses right wins the bet.

Players have a lot of options where they would place their bet when they play roulette. An instance would be when a player places his bet ‘outside’ of the wheel, that player would then choose to make different kinds of bet which includes choosing an even or odd number, color of the pocket or a group of pockets. On the other hand, if a player decides to place his/her bet on the ‘inside’ of the wheel, they’re left with the options of either selecting a small range of pockets based on their proximity on the layout or the exact number of the pocket the ball will land in.At the end of the day, the payout or the amount of money a roulette player earns by playing roulette depends on the probability of getting the outcome he/she has placed their bet on.

So what happens when a winning number and colour is determined by the roulette wheel? In answer to that, once that happens, the dealer will place a marker on that winning number or colour on the roulette table layout. The rule is, when the marker is on the table, no players may place bets, collect bets, or remove any bets from the table. The dealer will then sweep away all other losing bets either by hand or rake, and determine all of the payouts to the remaining inside and outside winning bets. Once the dealer is finished calculating and making the payouts, the dolly is removed from the board where players collect their winnings and make new bets while the winning chips remain on the board.
